Other Breeders

Although there is no creation of Sorraias in the US, it would be unfair fail to mention the great impact and dissemination that this breed has had in this country, where there are currently two stallions with a year apart: Sovina and TejoII. These two brothers full of mouse fur and children of Afogado and Trapaça (both with Andrade iron, Font'Alva Homestead) were sold by Hardy Oelke to Erin Gray and Karen Dalke, respectively. In the absence of Sorraia breed females in the US, they are being used in crosses with mares Iberian "blood" races.

Sovina is the first Sorraia horse in the US existing. Born in 1999 in Font'Alva Homestead, it was acquired by Hardy Oelke along with her mother, Trapaça (Serreiro x Impostorax), and later acquired here by Erin Gray and taken to the Nature's Baroques Farm in Oregon. This stud farm aims to create Baroque horses: Andalusian, Lusitano, Frisian and Lipizano, all dating back to the primitive horse Sorraia. It was indeed Erin’s dream, since he was 15 years old, to have this Iberian breed so rare horses. This dream became a reality only 18 years later, when Sovina arrived in the US in 2000. Since then, Sovina has aroused the greatest curiosity from the public, being presented in numerous shows such as Equine Show in the US northwest, and several shows for Lusitano and Andalusian horses performed in northwestern Canada. Has, since 2003, several descendants in the registers Iberian Warmblood Registry International LLC, Azteca American Registry, American Warmblood Registry Sportpony & American, Iberian Sporthorse Registry. Besides wanting to carefully choose the mares so that interested can subscribe to Sovina offspring of these records, and hopefully in the near future, get some Sorraias mares in Portugal in order to start in the US a breeding program for this breed.
